>>NEWS from UK, TURKEY, FRANCE and CHINA >>
If you are in UK, please pick up a copy of The Word, a music magazine for grown-ups. Since its redesign of June issue, monthly supplement CD has my illustration on the cover (confirmed up to August issue). The redesign was done by one and only Matthew Ball, who has been extra supportive of my work since he first hired me for Rolling Stone Magazine about 4 years ago. Thank you Matthew! (And I will come visit you in Scotland soooooon.)

My first illustration in Turkey has appeared on the cover of Photoshop Magazin (June issue) thanks to kindness of Sedef An.
In France, also for the first time, my illustration will be on the cover of Estapes: International, a magazine dedicated to art and design. The issue will come out in France and world-wide at the end of June. Thank you Céline.
And, please check out Press section for China's CG Magazine article on ZUNE Arts. Thank you Queen.

And, if you are in New York area, I worked on an illustration over the weekend that will come out in tomorrow in New York Times Science section.

>> BACK TO NEW YORK CITY >>
One month of crossing the pond again and again is over (well, at least for now).
>> FOLLOW UP ON KØBENHAVN >>
I didn't take any photo of my lecture at Danmarks Designskole in Copenhagen (well, I was lecturing..), but here are some for you to see if you are interested. You can also see the school buildings and neighborhood in his photo set.
>> BARCELONA THANK YOUs >>

Here are some of the people who made this trip such a memorable one: Paola Sman, Muntsa Vicente, Marcos Martin, Isabel Klett, Hanoch Piven, Miguel Gallardo, Catalina Estrada, Alvaro Lopez and Kano.

I will be gone again from tomorrow. I will be back on June 1. If you need to get hold of me, please e-mail. this time I should be able to check it every day.

>> ON THE COVER OF RYU MURAKAMI IN ITALY!! >>
Probably one of the most exciting moment since I had started illustrating, my illustration has become the cover of Ryu Murakami's Tokyo Soup (English/Japanese title: in The Miso Soup) in italy!! (image: right) It is published from Mondadori in paperback.
I had read a lot of Ryu Murakami books when I lived in japan myself, and I had never even imagined that a day would come when I do his cover!
Ryu Murakami is one of the most respected contemporary writers from japan along with Haruki Murakami who is also one of my favorite writers (They are not related).
The book is beautifully designed with French flap, saffron color spine and emboss on the cover. If you are interested in purchasing you can get it online.

>> KØBENHAVN!! >>

>> EARLY but IT'S SUMMER ALREADY!! >>
This school year at SVA has ended, and all my students and I are off to long four months summer break. I have to say, I had one of the best sophomore classes this year. Thank you for making my teaching worthwhile guys. Keep up good work and see you in fall.
SO, that means I have a little bit more time than it used to be for the past four months when I only took ONE DAY off from work. Today, I have updated illustration page a bit with five new illos, and this news page is filled with new press info.
>> A GREAT LOOKING BOOK FROM CHINA! >>
So much art is happening in China right now. I just got this exciting magazine Plugzine issue No.2 from Beijing and it is REALLY good looking!
I have four spreads in this collection of drawings by 39 mainly Asian artists from around the world.
The magazine is a set of two books, one for mainly hand-drawn works and another for mainly vector based drawings, printed on different stocks to match each work style, and it even comes with a complimentary sketchbook for those who got inspired. What a wonderful idea!!
Those who are in China and Hong Kong, please get a copy before the limited edition of 2,000 get sold out!!!
(it may be hard to get outside of Asia. You may try contacting Plugzine directly.)

>> A WRITE UP IN COMPLEX MAGAZINE >>
It happened a while back, but my work and American Illustration 25 cover got a write up in Complex Magazine Feb/Mar issue, along with my best friend Gary Taxali.
>> FOR THOSE WHO ARE TEACHING ILLUSTRATION >>
Also this book came out a while back, and I didn't have a chance to mention it before. At the end of the school year, it is a good time to introduce this to you. Teaching Illustration (far right) is a great resource for college and masters level instructors.
In this book, I spoke about my senior business/marketing class, which just ended for this school year.
Teaching illustration is published by Allworth Press, Edited by Steven Heller and Marshall Arisman (my MFA professor!).

>> STUFF... #2>>
We have lovely Wendi Koontz as a studio-mate for six weeks while Katie is away becoming a big star (?) in the land of rum and cigar.

Big "Thank you!" goes to two guest speakers for my class: SooJin Buzelli of PLANSPONSOR, as always for giving great tips and encouraging students, Max Bode for being a great example for someone so young and so focused both in art direction and illustration.
My senior class at SVA ended today.

>> STUFF... >>
Just finished adding 5 new illustrations to the site. Between January and April when I teach 2 classes at SVA I can seldom find time to update my site, or do anything else other than work. I am sure this site gets updated more often once school year ends. Sorry!

So, for the same reason, I had to turn down everyone who contacted me to do interview for school project. As a teacher myself, I wish I can help students as much as possible, but it has just been impossible. I am hoping to add FAQ section mainly for students sometime in near future. Thanks so much for understanding..

>> GUEST LECTURE WEEK! >>
For the first three years in my illustration career I was pretty much stuck inside my studio all the time, I told myself last year that I will start traveling more and visit different schools in different areas.
So, as a part of my ongoing "resolution" I flew up to Syracuse for a day last week to give a lecture at Syracuse University. Weather in Syracuse was beautiful, but it was a blizzard at La Guardia, I got stuck inside a plane parked at the airport for more than two hours and almost missed my lecture! I have to thank Jen Betton for all the arrangement and extra work because of my delay.

And, I was invited to School of Visual Arts MFA Illustration today. It was such an honor to get invited back to where I graduated, and by my favorite professor Mirko Ilic. And thank you Kim Ablondi for all the arrangements.

>> ILLUSTRATION SECTION FINALLY UPDATED! >>
I wasn't gone, I wasn't slacking off, I was just insanely busy! After getting e-mails from people asking why certain illos are not on the site yet, I finally updated my illustration section, and this time, there are 11 illustrations all at once, including the ones from a while back which I was meaning to post and hadn't had chance to.
And YES, the images you wanted are on the site. Please use them as your desktop wallpaper.

>> ENGLAND, ENGLAND >>
I will post more about the amazing business trip to England soon, but for now, you can see some of the photos from The Illustrating Gallery in Stroud here.
I have to thank a lot of people who had helped me during this trip.
